If you’ve lost count of the days you’ve been stuck at home - this post is for you. We don’t need to tell you that some days can feel pretty bleak. However, when things are feeling low and out-of-control, it can be a good idea to remind ourselves of the good stuff.

There are always reasons to be grateful, even in uncertain times like these. It might feel like we are all stuck indoors, but we’ve definitely found some good parts of staying at home.

The Front-Line Workers
While we are staying at home, we can show gratitude to all of the front-line workers that are helping us stay safe, fed, and able to self-isolate.

This goes for anyone who is working in a hospital - from the doctors to the cleaning crews - that are directly dealing with the people getting sick from COVID-19.

The workers at grocery stores, pharmacies, take-out counters, and other essential services are working hard to make sure we can stay at home safely.

Other people to be grateful to include police, factory workers, warehouse employees, Hydro employees, telecom workers, and others keeping the behind-the-scenes mechanics of society going.

By staying in our homes, we are being respectful to the people putting in the hours to combat this pandemic.

We're so appreciative of the extraordinary courage and commitment from all of our front line workers. As a way to give back to our local heroes, we invite you to nominate them for a chance to win one of 200 gift cards from Linen Chest valued at $100 each!

Sense of Community
In times like these, we really see the best of people. Communities are stepping up and taking care of each other - whether this includes coworkers checking in on each other or neighbours delivering groceries to those that are at high-risk.

We’ve gotten to know our neighbours and the other people in our lives from a completely different perspective. By staying at home, our communities have been brought together in a completely unique way.

More Family Time
Being forced to stay at home has opened up the opportunity to spend more time together as a family - or at least pick up the phone more often.

There are more meals eaten together, more meals cooked together, more activities done together, and more meaningful conversations.

Thankfully, our communication tools have never been better, and we can stay connected with friends and family from all over the world (or just down the street) with ease. It’s a reminder to check in on the people in your life and spend time being a unit instead of rushing through everything all day long.

Plus, our pets are definitely happier we are home all the time!

More Time for Yourself
Without the commute to work, some people are finding more time to work on their hobbies. There are more finished projects than incomplete ones for maybe the first time ever. The lack of work and social obligations allows for more time meditating, reading, writing, gardening, watching shows, cleaning out closets, etc. While this might not be true if you’re working from home while homeschooling your kids - there are a few people this applies to and that’s something to be grateful for!

More Focus on What’s Important
Many of us have been wrapped up in work, consuming items we don’t need, not taking care of ourselves or our planet, and putting ourselves before others. Staying at home has put us in a position where all of these things we once deemed a priority, are not even remotely near the top of our list.

Staying at home as the number one way to protect our community, helps remind us of how lucky we are and how important it is to reconnect with ourselves and the people around us. It has forced us to consider what really matters.

It will be wonderful to go back to dining out, heading to the theatre, going over to friends’ houses, and celebrating events in large gatherings. We should all aim to take some of the lessons learned via this pandemic and apply it to our post-pandemic lives. May we all get back to our roots and live fulfilling, wonderful, happy, grateful lives.

Staying home might feel like a burden at the moment, but there is a ton of good that is coming out of it.

Stay at home, stay safe and stay positive! ♥︎
