Pesto is light, refreshing, and delicious, making it the perfect sauce, spread, and dip for summer! Here’s an easy homemade pesto recipe that you can make in your food processor. It’s perfect on bread, pasta, pizza and so much more.

Ingredients

  • Fresh Basil
  • Olive Oil
  • Lemon Juice
  • Garlic
  • Pine Nuts
  • Salt
  • Fresh Parmesean or Nutritional Yeast
  • White Sugar

Wash your basil and pluck the leaves from the stems. Add the basil to your food processor. Fill it no more than 3/4 of the way. we typically use about 4 oz of basil in our 8 cup food processor.
Next, you will want to add your garlic, pine nuts, and a squirt of lemon juice. All of these things can be added to taste. Next, add your olive oil, it should nicely coat the basil but not soak it completely. Turn on the food processor and let these ingredients mix. You will notice the basil starts to combine with the oil. If you see dry patches add more oil as needed until the pesto texture is reached.

Once you’ve reached the proper consistency it’s time to add your parmesan cheese, or nutritional yeast if you are planted-based or dairy-free. Add either to taste. You may notice this causes your pesto to be a little drier. Add more oil as needed. Lightly season with salt. Taste your pesto and a small pinch of white sugar if it’s too acidic or needs a little sweetness.

Pesto will be good in the fridge for about 3-4 days or it can be frozen to use later!
