It’s been over a year of staying home and staying distanced, and most likely, you might be starting to lose motivation. It’s important to stay on top of everything during these trying times, so here are a few tips on how to do just that.
Keep on top of Your Work or School
If you’re working or learning from home you might not feel at the top of your game. Work and school are great ways to keep yourself on a normal schedule and keep motivated. Here are a few things to try:
- Create a designated working or learning space - working from the couch or even your bed can lead you to feel sluggish and tired. If you don’t have a designated space to do your tasks, set one up.
- Take frequent (but short) breaks - it’s okay to take small breaks. Get up and walk around the house, get a drink of water or a snack and then get back to work.
- Keep a to-do list handy - the best way to keep track of everything you need to do in a day is to make yourself to-do lists. Get a cute notebook and jot things down to help you remember.
- Set boundaries and keep normal hours - when you’re at home it’s easy to sleep in, work late and skip meals. Turn your computer off and silence emails to give yourself some space.
Keep Up Healthy Eating Habits
Being home and not out and about is the perfect time to get yourself into the habit of eating healthy. Find healthy meal recipes, do your shopping and make your meals at home. Without access to restaurant food, you’ll be more likely to eat what you have at home.
Make cooking at home a little more fun with a new kitchen gadget or a helpful tool like an air fryer, or a slow cooker to make meals a little faster.
Get Some Spring Cleaning Done
What better time to get Spring cleaning and organizing done than when you’re staying in? Some great projects to tackle during this time are:
- Decluttering your closets and donating unused items
- Cleaning out the pantry. Toss expired foods and collected non-perishables for donation to local food banks.
- Sorting and organizing storage closets and the garage.
- Deep cleaning your home inside and out.

Get Your Body Moving
It’s easy to spend your day flopped on the couch bingeing a new show or reading a good book, and it’s okay to do that sometimes, but it’s important to keep your body moving. As the weather warms up, consider heading out for a walk or a hike. If you want to stick close to home, try doing some yard work, or take an at-home workout class. Do whatever makes you happy and gets your body moving!
Relax a Little
We just told you to get your body moving and now we’re telling you to relax? It’s all about balance. Uncertain times are leaving everyone stressed, anxious, and overwhelmed. As important as it is to keep a routine, get exercise and eat right, it’s important to care for your body.
Take a hot bath, slip into a soft robe and just enjoy some time to yourself. It’s important for your mental health and your well-being. The work will still be there tomorrow.
