The springtime change is coming up on March 12, 2023. With this time shift, it can often feel like we are losing time and losing sleep. Here are the best ways to make the most out of the springtime change!
1. Free Up Your Evenings
One of the perks of the time change is that we get an extra hour of daylight in the evening. Make the most of this time by scheduling yourself to have more free time at the end of the day. Tackle things like household chores, errands, and exercise in the morning when it’s dark out so your evenings are free.
2. Enjoy More Time Outside
The weather is starting to get nicer, which is the perfect excuse to spend some more time outside. With your extra evening light take a walk, enjoy a picnic, have a BBQ, or play with the kids in the backyard. The more time you spend outside, the more it will feel like spring!
3. Make New Bedtime Habits
One of the harder parts of the time change is adjusting to the loss of sleep. The best way to combat this is to start making new bedtime habits before the time change happens:
- Head to bed a little earlier
- Invest in quality bedding
- Reduce screen time
- Avoid snacking right before bed
These are all great ways to ensure you have a better night of rest.
4. Help Your Body Relax
Many of us have trouble falling asleep at night, and the time change can make that worse. Instead of just jumping in bed and tossing and turning for hours, try helping your body relax in the hours leading up to bedtime. Great ways to relax include:
- Taking a warm bath
- Doing yoga
- Listening to a podcast
- Downloading a guided meditation app
5. Stick to a Routine
Our bodies like routine, so make sure you create a routine you can stick to. This will help you get accustomed to your new habits and it will make it easier to keep them in the long run. If you feel like you’re not settling into your routine yet, just give it some time it will become easier the more you do it.
