Baking is a rewarding albeit oftentimes frustrating endeavour. Whatever you’re using your oven to make – bread, baked goods, casseroles –reliable tools will make the job easier and more enjoyable.

Along with the suggestions provided here, make sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions so as to be made aware of any discrepancies.

Metal & Non-Stick

Stainless steel and coated bakeware are the most popular options on the market today. That’s because they are durable, easy to maintain and heat and brown food beautifully.

Some are dishwasher safe while others should be washed by hand. Make sure to grease all items – even those claiming to be non-stick – before use.

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass casseroles as well as cake and pie dishes are a great addition to any kitchen. Perfect for warming, re-heating and serving, they can go in the microwave, conventional oven, dishwasher and fridge.

Made of hardened clay, stoneware is highly durable and chip resistant. Stoneware keeps food warm longer and is oven, microwave refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher safe.

Beyond conventional items like lasagna dishes, roasters and ramekins, you can also find pizza stones and cheese bakers made of this material.

When going from extreme temperatures (i.e. freezer to oven) always bring the stone to room temperature to prevent thermo shock (and the stone consequently cracking).

Silicone bakeware offers several advantages. Durable and easy to use and clean, it is non-stick, heats and cools quickly (and evenly) and can withstand particularly high temperatures.

Rubber-like in quality, it is often offered in a wide array of bright colours and is safe for use in the oven, refrigerator, freezer, microwave and dishwasher.
