“Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” ― Lao Tzu

Gift-giving is a meaningful way to acknowledge important milestones and holidays or express feelings of love and gratitude. While it may not seem tremendously important, giving the right gift at the right time actually has the power to solidify relationships and strengthen bonds.

“Happiness doesn't result from what we get, but from what we give.” ― Ben Carson

Better to give than to receive.

Gift-giving benefits not only the receiver but also the giver. While the former gains the gift itself, the latter gains improved psychological health. How so? Seeing the other person’s delight upon receiving the gift and knowing they’re doing something thoughtful has been shown to noticeably elevate mood.

Interesting finding: when it comes to selecting gifts (especially for their partners), men generally focus on the price tag whereas women generally place greater emphasis on the meaning inherent in the present.

Throughout human history, gift-giving has been highly valued as an act of genuine selflessness.

Many Canadian aboriginal communities did (and still do) celebrate a festival known as potlatch. A traditional gathering that celebrates extreme generosity, families that give away the most are awarded the most prestige.
